Budget
Budgets that bend without breaking
Rigid budgets die at the first flat tire. Stoia's category budgets roll unspent money forward, learn how you categorize, and split messy real-world purchases cleanly, so the budget survives contact with real life.
Rollover keeps good months from going to waste
Traditional budgets reset on the 1st, which quietly punishes discipline: save $100 on dining out and the budget forgets by February. With rollover, a cheap month funds an expensive one, the way money actually works.
- Category budgets with monthly targets you set once
- Unspent amounts carry forward automatically
- Overspending is visible immediately, not at month-end

Categorization you train once, then forget
The reason budgets get abandoned is bookkeeping. Stoia does the filing for you, learns your corrections, and handles the awkward cases too: that one Costco receipt that is somehow groceries, household goods, and a birthday present at the same time.
- Automatic categories on every synced transaction
- Corrections become rules: fix it once, it stays fixed
- Splits divide one purchase across categories, people, or goals
Frequently asked questions
How is Stoia's budgeting different from envelope budgeting?
Envelope systems assume every dollar gets a job and every month starts from zero, which is powerful but demanding. Stoia's category budgets are flexible by default: set monthly amounts for the categories you care about, let unspent money roll forward, and tighten or loosen as life changes. If you love strict budgeting you can run it strictly; the app doesn't force the ceremony.
What does 'rollover' mean?
Unspent budget carries into the next month instead of vanishing. Spend $40 less on groceries in July and August's grocery budget starts $40 ahead. It rewards good months instead of resetting them.
How do transaction splits work?
One purchase can be divided across categories, people, or goals. A $180 Costco run might be $120 groceries, $40 household, $20 gifts. The original synced transaction stays intact; the split lives on top of it, so your books always reconcile with the bank.
Can I create my own categories?
Yes. Stoia ships with sensible defaults and lets you add, rename, and reorganize categories so the budget matches how you actually think about spending.
How does the AI categorization work?
New transactions are categorized automatically from their details. When you correct one, Stoia learns the pattern and applies it going forward. You stay in control; the AI just does the tedious part.
